PEREGRINE FALCON

June 12, 2005:  The youngest of the three chicks, this male nonetheless weighed the same (705 grams) as his brother.  This reinforces the fact that by 3-4 weeks they are essentially fully grown, and the remainder of their time in the nest (roughly two weeks) is spent developing flight muscles and shedding their down while completing the growth of their flight feathers.  (Photo by Marcel Gahbauer)
