February 2009 - The object of our search - a Short-eared Owl!   There were actually plenty around (easily 20 or more), but true to their nature they became active only toward dusk, and mostly we saw them engaged in acrobatic aerial displays - fantastic to observe, but not really suited to photography.  This one individual at least rested on a roadside fence post for a while, allowing us to catch this grainy photo in the fading daylight.  (Photo by Marcel Gahbauer)
