PEREGRINE FALCON

June 6, 2005:  A close view of the adult female, showing that she inconveniently has managed to cover up the numbers on her band (perhaps with blood from prey handled earlier in the day, or with detritus from the nest area) so that even at this short distance we were unable to make any progress in identifying her.  For this reason, all of the young we band now also receive a colour band on the other leg which can much more easily be read from a distance.  (Photo by Marcel Gahbauer)
